Competition Time!

I’m looking forward to entering both the D&AD Don’t Panic Illustration brief and the D&AD What Else Do You Do brief in the next week. Its kind of competition season and others vying to assess the field of illustration this month include Creative Review - deadline March 21st, 3×3 on March 15th / 26th for pro/student respectively, and Illustration magazine here in Tokyo on March 27th. Sorry to not give too much away but I’ll post up the submissions once they have been, er submitted!

3 posters by me are on exhibition in a 1 month long group exhibition in Nagaoka, Niigata. Vertically arranged, blue and yellow and blue. My second childrens’ book, Hope and the Super Green Highway is out now! Thanks again to writer Helen Moore for this wonderful project. Available to buy online

Seasons changing

Some new work up, see left. Looking at seasonality in modern Japan. The 4-character title is a compound idiomatic phrase that means from season to season, or, according to each season.

Elsewhere, illustrator Takashi Akiyama is opening a muesum spanning many works from his long career as an illustrator. The place is Nagaoka, North Japan, and I’m going along to help with the preparations.

Also, very excited about an awesome find in the Tokyo urban jungle - an ‘artist’s book’ gallery in minami aoyama called Now Idea. They are having a book fair so I’m going to help out and support the artist/authors from whom I bought rather too many books earlier this week.

It’s all about giving back this month （*´▽｀*）

Hope and the Magic Martian, which author Helen Moore and I had published last year, has made its way into the hands of Hollywood celebrities on Earth Day! According to
this website Heather Graham, Adrian Grenier, Pink, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sheryl Crow, Drew Barrymore, Ellen & Sting all got a copy! I hope they too are waiting with baited breath for the 2nd book, the illustrations for which have just been signed off. Back in the UK, my thanks to May’s Stores in Lewes who put Hope at the centre of their window display.
